Wood Street Walls CIC missions are in creating a sustainable link between the local and artistic communities of Waltham Forest through public art, affordable studio space and free workshops.

Our goals to make art accessible for the residents of and visitors to Waltham Forest through the erection and installation of outdoor public art.

To establish a new creative hub for the borough: by repurposing disused and derelict buildings, or new & existing community spaces. To provide free workshops to the local community lead by our resident artists in return for affordable rent. Use public art as a way to raise awareness of key social issues facing our borough and London.

Wood Street Walls are looking to hire young people from Waltham Forest to be tour guides to host tours for residents and visitors to the area, showing the murals and exploring the local area.

1. ACCESSIBLE ART

To make art accessible through the creation and installation of outdoor public art.

2. INCREASE ARTIST WORKSPACE PROVISION

To establish new creative hubs, by repurposing disused or underutilized buildings and realising spare capacity.

3. ART FOR ALL

To provide free workshops to the local community led by our resident artists in return for affordable rent.

The role will entail:

  • Hosting street art tours around the local area tours routes will be set with full training and artist information to be provided.
  • Using social media to promote the tours and take pictures and video of the events. Taking feedback from the tours from attendees, feeding back to management team of the experience of the group and individuals.
  • Assisting in the coordination for workshops (screenprinting/graffiti workshops) as part of the tours. Tracking costs, attendance and feedback of the tours.
  • Additional bonus payments can be made: for securing new wall space for artists to paint.
  • Securing new partnerships/sponsorships for the tours. Being able to train new tour guides due to demand.

You must be aged 16-24 years old, and unemployed and claiming Universal Credit.

Person Specification

  • A Waltham Forest or East London resident is desirable
  • Interest in arts, local history and heritage of an area and/or public realm regeneration.
  • Being able to retain information of the artists who have painted the murals in the area to share with residents on the tour.
  • Individual(s) who is looking for a career in the arts or creative/digital marketing.
  • Interest in curation and arts administration.
  • Interest in community / social work.
  • A good communicator - having an outgoing personality could be an advantage to help build report with stakeholders and business owners on the routes of the tours.
  • Well organised and self-starting - not needing to wait for guidance but willing on occasion to try approaches for themselves.
  • Ability to help “connect the dots” between interactions of stakeholders, prospective partners and businesses.
  • Good level of literacy and grammar for communication desirable.
  • Social Media qualifications ideal, but not required and can be taught.
  • Understanding of social media management platforms such as Hootsuite desirable but can be taught.
  • Experience in volunteering and knowing how to work with community groups.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Excel or Google Sheets for basic calculations to track spending.
  • Basic knowledge of Eventbrite or ticket platforms

This programme is being delivered as part of the government’s Kickstart Scheme.

To be eligible to apply you must be aged 18 – 24 and claiming universal credit.
