Chisenhale Gallery

The role

In January 2019, Chisenhale Gallery will launch a new programme for ten young people aged 16 – 20 years who are interested in contemporary art. This 12-month programme provides a space for critical discussion where young people collectively discuss issues and ideas that are important to them and develop these ideas into public projects.

Through mentoring sessions with Chisenhale Gallery’s curatorial team and invited creative professionals, the programme supports creative practice among young people and provides participants with the opportunity to learn new skills, build their confidence and form a network of new friends and collaborators.

The programme will be informed by the participants and draw on themes explored in the 2019 Commissions Programme. The 2019 Commissions Programme includes four exhibitions by Ghislaine Leung, Mandy El Sayegh, Ima-Abasi Okon and Sidsel Meineche Hansen. Through their work these artists explore themes including labour, image-production, identity, and new technologies.

Participants in the Young People’s Programme will meet once a month on Wednesday evenings, 5.30 – 7.30pm at Chisenhale Gallery. We ask participants to commit to participating for the full 12-month period.

Travel bursaries are available and food will be provided for all meetings.
